Catfish Labelling Backed by Senator

US - A bill designed to give consumers more information about what they're eating has now passed out Agriculture Committee and been sent to the Public Health Committee.

Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (District 39) has been at the center of a country of origin catfish labeling bill and is keen to see its become law.

"The bill would require restaurants in Mississippi to indicate on a placard whether or not they serve farm-raised US catfish," said Hyde-Smith, D-Brookhaven.

Hyde-Smith said representatives from the restaurant industry have recommended that only restaurants serving foreign catfish should be required to display the placard.

She says there is however, some opposition from the restaurant industry. Some don't want to display the origin information.
