Speaking on CFAX 1070 Gerry Christianson with teh Pacific Salmon Commission said that problems with aquaculture and salmon go back 30 years.
In the programme with Joe Easingwood, Mr Kristianson said that sea lice presented a problem because of teh large concentration of salmon, a report from CFAX 1070 said.
He told the programme: "They gave the responsibility for aquaculture to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, which then placed it in a conflict of interest, frankly. It has to; on the one hand, advance the cause of farming in the ocean. At the same time it has a statutory responsibility to protect the wild animals that live in the ocean, and net cage salmon aquaculture brought this squarely to the fore."
