Council angling for research lab

UK - Highland Council is to make a pitch for a freshwater fisheries research facility to be relocated in its area.

The laboratory studies migratory fish such as salmon

The Freshwater Research Laboratory at Pitlochry in Perthshire, along with its ancillary buildings, including one at Shieldaig, employ 43 people.

Relocation is being considered because of the costs involved in upgrading the Pitlochry facility.

Highland Council said the lab's work could be tied into the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).
