Mr Gospodinov takes over from Plamen Zahariev, who is leaving voluntarily due to new job offer.

Mr Gospodinov was deputy director of State Agriculture Fund and was in charge of technical inspectorate.

Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov hopes the new agency chief will crack down on illegal fishing. Last week the minister promised stricter control over illegal fishing of turbot and sprat to European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Maria Damanaki, so that Bulgaria could keep its current fishing quotas.
