Fishing of Triggerfish and Filefish in St. Croix to Close Soon

US - NOAA Fisheries reminds fishers that the commercial and recreational harvest of federally managed triggerfish and filefish closes in St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands (USVI) federal waters at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on November 21, 2013.

The 2014 fishing season will reopen at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on January 1, 2014. During the closure, no fishers may fish for or keep triggerfish and filefish in or from St. Croix federal waters.

The US Caribbean federal waters around USVI consist of those waters extending from the three nautical mile seaward boundary of the territory of the USVI out to 200 nautical miles offshore.

This action complies with regulations implemented under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and is necessary to protect these resources.

This bulletin provides only a summary of the information regarding the existing regulations. Any discrepancies between this bulletin and the regulations as published in the Federal Register will be resolved in favor of the Federal Register.
