NORWAY - The Food Safety Authority (FSA) has recommended to the industry and Fisheries Ministry that infection with amoebic gill disease (AGD) not be listed in the national disease list.

The national disease list (list 3) lists diseases in Norway that the government implements measures against.

FSA considered that AGD does not meet the criteria for listing as:

  • the parasite causing the disease is widespread naturally and therefore it is very difficult to achieve and maintain disease-free areas through prevention and control
  • the disease is probably not a threat to wild fish, since AGD has not been detected in wild populations in Norway
