The outbreak was discovered on a fresh water trout farm which is epidemiologically connected with the confirmed outbreak of IHN reported in January 2014.

The farm was tested on IHN in January this year due to the epidemiological connection with that outbreak.

Results were negative to viral haemorrhagic septicaemia and IHN. The infected farm is located on the river Pecina.

The farm is a research facility and mainly breeds a Croatian autochthon sort of trout. On 15 April the farmer noticed a high mortality of fry. An authorised veterinarian took samples for laboratory investigation and results were positive for IHN and for viral haemorrhagic septicaemia. Clinical signs (exophthalmos, anaemia) were observed.
