“We already have a comprehensive plan that we will put in place very soon,” Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala said during the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Forum held in Tubod on February 15, 2016.
Under the plan, BFAR is set to strengthen and improve further the production of soft shell crab.
BFAR has also lined-up sustainable livelihood projects for the fishermen of the province.
In line with this, Alcala turned-over some P1.7 M worth of fishing equipment, composed of 107 units of marine engine (5.5 horsepower), 83 sets of bottom set gill nets and 100 sets of seaweed production implements to fishing groups.
Five units of fiber glass boats were also raffled off.
In his message, the DA chief thanked the fishermen’s group in the province for their initiative and cooperation in stopping the utilization of sanggab, a local filter net which catches small crabs and prawns prematurely.
