Marine products export target $2b

INDIA - The government today announced steps to boost exports of marine products, setting a target of $2 billion for the year 2007-08. For the first time after 10 years the marine products exports have gone up for two consecutive years, the minister of state for commerce, Mr Jairam Ramesh, said.

India, he said, was emerging as a major marine product exporter. After stagnating for the past 10 years, moving from $1.42 billion in 2000-01 to $1.48 billion in 2004-05, the exports had risen to $1.64 billion in 2005-06 and $1.85 billion in 2006-07, Mr Ramesh said.
