Russian Authorities Reorganise in Novosibirsk

RUSSIA - The Russian authorities have welcomed a shake-up in the control and administration of the fish industry in the Novosibirsk region.

The head of the Russian fish committee, Goskomrybolovstvo, RF Aleksandr Belousov, said that the Novosibirsk region had taken back control of fish protection form the food safety authority Rosselkhoznador.

The authorities will be using a model that is already in existence in the Tomsk region.

The Novosibirsk region will have four inspectors to protect the sturgeon in the region, ensure the reservoirs are clean and cleared of tackle and to protect the breeding grounds from poaching, particularly from Chinese gangs and to protect the spawning grounds.

The inspectors will also be in charge of protecting the white fish in the region and the salmon migration.

Since the controls had been established in the omsk region, 11 raids had been carried out and 20,000 penalties issued.
