SVC Found in Imported Fish

UK - Defra has confirmed that routine import checks have discovered the deadly fish disease Spring Viraemia of Carp (SVC) in a consignment of goldfish from a Hong Kong.

Movement controls have been placed on all companies who have or may purchased fish from the infected consignment and samples have been taken by Fish Health Inspectorate (FHI) and the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) for testing. Defra has also informed the authorities in the exporting country that SVC has been detected and that they are conducting investigations to identify the source of the disease.

The infected fish are from the Tung Hoi Aquarium Company which is thought to have supplied a number of fish dealers and aquarium traders. All businesses that may have also imported fish from the company have been advised that there is a potential SVC risk from its fish.
