TANZANIA - Tanzania's Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Development, Dr Titus Kamani has called on the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) to work closely with national research institutions in ensuring poverty is alleviated.

Speaking last week during the opening of the ILRI Country Office, Dr Kamani said that with fish farming coming up in the East African region, there was strong need for scientifically proven technologies to develop the sector, reports All Africa.

"In this case I urge ILRI to collaborate with the Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) in the same vein as you are doing with the Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI).

"I encourage you to work with TAFIRI to develop appropriate technology for farming fish fingerings and feed production for fish," he said.
