Ugandan fish products free to enter Japan

JAPAN - Japan has granted 99% market access for Ugandas products. This is an opportunity for Ugandan exporters to exploit the Japanese market whose government has allowed 99% of product exported there duty and tariff-free, Ugandas ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Arsene Balihuta, said.

“The implication is that Japan has given Uganda access to the pockets of the Japanese consumers who have the highest income in the world. Tilapia in Uganda costs $1.5 but can be sold to the Japanese at $10,” Balihuta said at the opening a multi-lateral trading systems open doors’ week.

He said the Japanese are interested in mainly fish, honey, beef, coffee, flowers, beans and horticultural products.
