White Spot Reported In Saudi Arabia

SAUDI ARABIA - White spot disease caused high mortality in adult shrimp at one farm in February this year.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 24 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes an outbreak of White Spot disease, which caused 95 per cent mortality in adult female shrimp (Penaeus indicus) in semi-intensive production system at Ras Attarfa in Jizan on the south-west coast of the Kingdom.

This was the first occurrence of the disease, and it occurred in February 2011.
