SPAIN - The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated €8.1 million to the crew and vessel owners affected by the situation of the fisheries agreement between the EU and Mauritania.

Those affected may benefit from six months of aid rather than the four initially proposed.

Shipowners will also not have to repay all of the aid if they subsequently opt for scrapping.

Crew will need to be enrolled in the boat at the time of immobilisation of the fleet.

Considering the current budget situation, the rates applied are those established in the emergency measures contained in the Operational Programme for the Spanish fishing sector 2007-2013.
