Fishermen Receive Training on the Benefits of Aquaculture

ECUADOR - The Deputy Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP), has given a lecture on Mariculture to artisanal and industrial fishermen of Esmeraldas and Manabi.

Attended by presidents of the artisanal fisheries cooperatives, the lecture presented the benefits of mariculture and how to perform this activity in the country. There was also a discussion among attendees.

Jean Paul Castillo, coach of Aquaculture Policy and Planning also spoke about several issues including: global importance of mariculture; regulations for mariculture in Ecuador; results of oyster culture projects and mariculture as an alternative to fishing.

The Government is promoting mariculture as an alternative to craft and industrial production sectors.
