Darren Moor, Regional Services Director (Central West), Department of Environment and Resource Management, told TheFishSite that the department staff have inspected a section of the Boyne River on 3 January following the report of dead fish.
Mr Moor commented that the departmental staff discovered seven dead Barramundi in a section of the Boyne River 3.5km upstream of the Bruce Highway, some 20kms away from Gladstone Harbour.
He noted that the cause of death is unknown.
Mr Moor continued: "Fish appeared to have been dead for up to three days. Due to the state of decomposition, fish samples were unsuitable for laboratory analysis. However, one of the fish reportedly showed signs of a lesion consistent with those observed on other fish collected in recent times."
Departmental staff conducted on site water quality tests. The results of these tests did not identify any water quality concerns and are consistent with those of a healthy waterway.
