The company has made several successful attempts to use coniferous as feed for farmed fish, according to NRK.
"It is a resource that is not fully utilised today as much as it could be," said marketing manager for Marine Harvest North Region, Are Moe.
Using local trees to make feed would reduce the dependence on soy from Brazil.
Farmers and the forest industry in Helgeland are now presenting plans on research to be conducted.
The project "Foods of Norway" has so far received widespread national and international attention.
If everything goes according to plan, fish feed will be coming from the woodland in around ten years time.
"We are constantly looking for new commodity markets. If we are to produce more fodder, we must find new raw materials or the production of existing products must be increased," said Moe.
