Mexico's Fish and Aquaculture Production up 4.4 per cent

MEXICO - From January to June this year, the national fisheries and aquaculture production was 914,700 tons, 4.4 per cent above the average for the first half of the previous six years.

National fisheries and aquaculture production for 2013 is estimated to be 1.67 million tons.

Small pelagics, tuna, shrimp, squid and shark, are among the main species caught.

Regarding aquaculture, the report has an output of 84,100 tonnes, particularly due to the recovery of farmed tuna production.

The head of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Mario Aguilar Sanchez, noted that in fisheries the Government's strategy of the Republic is oriented to harness the productive potential of the national fisheries and aquaculture.
