New Zealand Salmon Sales Thrive in Recession

Salmonids Economics +2 more

NEW ZEALAND - The New Zealand King Salmon company says salmon sales are booming despite the recession.

According to Radio New Zealand, domestic sales for December for the Nelson-based company were nearly a third higher than for the previous period.

Chief executive Paul Steere told the news organisation that the weaker New Zealand dollar is also helping export sales, including a doubling of sales to Canada in 2008.

The company is seeking to add to its Marlborough Sounds fish farm space, with a resource consent application to convert a mussel farm.
