INDIA - The Indian aquaculture is striving thanks to beneficial developments made by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research last year.

. Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the ICAR Society, Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Pawar, said that annual fish production of over 6.8 million tonnes had become possible mainly through research, capacity-building and technology transfer by the ICAR, reported Aquafeed recently.

High levels of agricultural production and effectively controlling plant and animal diseases in the country has brought about this success.

"We could ensure year-round availability of fish seed through the ICAR Mega seed project. Successful culture of tiger shrimp in inland ground saline waters of Haryana has opened up new avenues for farmers in the northern parts of the country. Production of an economical and indigenous shrimp feed based on ICAR technology would enable shrimp farmers achieve greater profits,’ Shri Pawar stated.
