The shrimp closure season extends from 00:00 hours on 1 May until 24:00 pm on 19 August this year.

On the coast of Mexico there are three main areas of operation: Northern Gulf of Mexico (Tamaulipas and Veracruz), Campeche (Campeche and Tabasco) and Mexican Caribbean (Quintana Roo, Contoy area).

The shrimp fishery in the region of Tamaulipas and Veracruz, particularly the state of Tamaulipas, is the largest in the Gulf of Mexico socially and economically.
