Fisheries production amounted to 1.82 million tons in the January-June period, compared with 1.85 million tons the previous year, according to data by Statistics Korea, YonhapNewsAgency reports.
The output is valued at 3.42 trillion won (US$3.05 billion) in the first half, down 7.7 per cent from the same period of last year, it added.
The decline stemmed mostly from a smaller catch as a long cold spell into spring cooled down sea temperatures. Fisheries in offshore waters dropped 17.6 per cent on-year to 367,000 tons in the cited period.
Deep-water fishing inched down 0.1 per cent to 295,000 tons from a year earlier while offshore aquaculture production grew 4.5 per cent to 1.15 million tons, the data showed.
