South West New Brunswick Closure

Breeding & genetics Clams Oysters +6 more

CANADA - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public that the harvesting of bi-valve molluscs (except sea scallops) for recreational or commercial purposes in areas of New Brunswick is closed.

The areas closed are the foreshore and waters within 5 km of the Counties of Charlotte, Albert and Saint John, and the foreshore and waters within 5 km of the Islands of Grand Manan, the Wolves, Bliss, Hills, Frye, Deer and Campobello, New Brunswick.

This is due to an increase in levels of bacteriological contamination that has an adverse effect on shellfish growing areas.

Bivalve molluscs are shellfish with two shells, and include; oysters, clams (soft shell clams, razor clams, surf clams) mussels, and quahogs (bay and ocean).
