Town Council to Close Processing Plant

CANADA - A fish processing plant in Gaultois, Newfoundland, could soon be closed as the town council reassesses the aquaculture business in the region.

According to a report on The Coaster, the town mayor Gordon Hunt has applied for a permanent closure status for the plant that processes wild fish and hopes it will become a part of the aquaculture picture in the Coast of Bays in the future.

The report says that Mayor Hunt said the plant does not have a fish processing licence now and the town council has been talking with several aquaculture companies about the possibility of the plant being involved in the aquaculture-processing picture in the area.

If the town council gets involved in the aquaculture industry in the area, the move will have to be approved by the federal fisheries ministry.
