Viet Nam Seafood Exports to Egypt Surpass $57 Million

VIET NAM - Seafood has always been the leading export item from Viet Nam to Egypt. According to General Customs, Viet Nam seafood exports to Egypt reached $57.2 million in the first nine months of 2014, equivalent to that of 2013.

Egypt, where 85 million people live, has high demand for seafood. This market consumes 2 million MT of fish every year while domestic supply deficits, reports VASEP.

In total, Viet Nam exported seafood to Egypt in 2013 valued at $57.2 million, pangasius HS code 0304 reached $40 million while whiteleg shrimp exports were $13.3 million.

Pangasius, accounted for 62 per cent of total seafood exports to Egypt, valued at $35.8 million.

Live/fresh/frozen whiteleg shrimp (code 03), which accounted for 28 per cent, was approximately $16 million in value.

Black tiger shrimp was the third most item exported to Egypt, with a value of $1.1 million in the first nine months of 2014.
