CHILE - A total of 394 artisanal vessels have been affected to varying degrees, after the tsunami and earthquake that hit the coast of the Coquimbo Region in Chile.

Land Registry identified 394 fishing vessels affected by tsunami in the region of Coquimbo

The Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Raul Súnico, explained that of the total vessels affected, 192 lost their engines, 247 lost their equipment and gear and 102 others need to be repaired.

Mr Súnico stated that next week a small shipyard fair will be held to identify the affected fishermen and advance the recovery of fishing in the area.

In turn, boats that were not damaged during the tsunami could sail at dawn yesterday (Thursday 24 September).
