Fish Catch Over 140,000 Tonnes Reported in 2013

VENEZUELA - A total of 140,211 tonnes of fish were caught by artisanal fishermen and women in 2013 in the country, due to the organisation and coordination of the work of the Bolivarian Government.

Marine fish production stands at 111,192 tonnes, while inland fisheries in rivers and lakes was 29,018 tonnes.

The total catch of sardines was 41,603 tonnes, followed by snapper with 21,044 tonnes, pepitona with over 21 thousand kilograms and mussels with 4.729 kg.

Meanwhile, the biggest land catch was coporo with 8,797 tonnes, the striped catfish with 2,269 tonnes and curbina curbinata with 1,949 tonnes.

By state, Sucre state reported the biggest catch of 79,664 tonness, followed by Nueva Esparta with 10,045 tonnes.
