Salmonids Economics +2 more

CHILE - Between January and October this year, the Chilean salmon industry exported 37,098 tonnes of fresh farmed salmon fillets to the US, representing a 43 per cent decrease compared with the 64,849 tonnes exported in the same period of the previous year.

According to Fishfarmingexpert.com, in terms of value, the American imports of fresh farmed salmon fillets from Chile decreased by 40 per cent from US$518,2 million to US$310,8 million says trade data published by the Fisheries Statistics Division of the NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service.

This downfall trend has been partially compensated by the continuous increase of the Norwegian fresh farmed salmon fillets exported to that market. During the first ten months of this year the US imported 14,926 tonnes of this product from Norway representing a 712 per cent increase compared with the 1,838 tonnes sent in the same period of 2008.

Meanwhile, the value of the Norwegian exports of fresh farmed salmon fillets to the US increased an impressive 776 per cent from US$15.1 million to US$132.9 million.

In total, the US imported 61,066 tonnes of fresh farmed fillets of Atlantic salmon between January and October this year.
